A Dream Life 5 - The Carnival
This morning I have a meeting with some of the members from the Australian Chamber of Commerce; they want to promote their wines and meats and fruits in Hong Kong. I've made it very frank to them, "I want to make profits, and not an ordinary trade show." No objection from them. Then I start telling them my marketing plan:
"I want to conduct a carnival on Easter Sunday at Hong Kong Stadium, in Causeway Bay.
Inviting the Australian dance groups and singers, and acrobats performing live shows on the lawn where the audiences are picnicking on the lawn, too.
Therefore there will have many vending tables selling fresh fruits, bottled juices, glasses of wines, barbecued meats, bread and salads. And they can buy the products in bulk quantity to take home after the carnival.
At 7.30 the night outdoor cinema will carry on the entertainment, the big screen playing the movie "The King and I" (1956 film) 20th Century Fox, with the movie stars Deborah Kerr and Yul Brynner. It was the film played on a Melbourne TV channel in the year 1991 on Easter Friday night The whole city was talking about this movie on the following Saturday and Sunday. The Australians liked this movie, and adopted it as part of their musical culture."
However, my marketing plan is banned by them, they believe the cost will be too high and the admission fees will be too high, they want to let me using this Easter Holiday to think of a new plan. Meeting is over.
I ring up Andy, "I was defeated by my clients."
I'd told Andy about the meeting with members from the Australian Chamber of Commerce, and my marketing plan.
Andy says, "Josephine, why don't you sell this plan to the Hong Kong Film industry Association, same strategy but change the movie to The true-blue brothers 難兄難弟 (1960 Cantonese film)."
